Okay, so I was happy that Chicago didn't get it.I don't think that the city is in a well enough position to handle that, and I think it's really neat that South America will be hosting their first Olympic Games!
And on another side note, anyone going?

i think it would have been cool if madrid was hosting it but south america deserved it. Maybe next time US? hahaha
Apparently Rio has pledged $16 billion if they host the games. Chicago was trying to pull off what LA did in 1984 and avoid spending much cash and simply using their existing infrastructure. Unfornately... thats not how it works anymore. Gotta pour in tons of cash and flash to get any sort of consideration in the end.
Isn't Sydney still paying off when they hosted it? Time Magazine did a piece showcasing former Olympic stadiums, and it looks like they don't really help the economy in the long run.Hopefully Rio will be able to handle it
Yah its quite a debate right now but I guess cities are willing to be in debt for long-term benefits such as reputation, and it also helps accelerate long term plans like crime fighting, transportation systems, and other stuff. Also has untold long term effects for tourism reputation and all.
