It's a perfect fit, and already all set up. So, I really don't need responses telling me how poor my job market is, and/or how limited the opportunities are.

I know most employers don't pay much attention to minors, and they're really not a big deal. However, I am being asked to declare mine before Thanksgiving, and i'm a bit stuck.

Some people may say this is a fair amount of information to process, but I would greatly appreciate any sort of feedback!

Political Science: The program claims there's a lot of overlap, and that it prepares one for a career in Journalism. I am worried that the subject may bore me. I am not overly bored by politics, though they don't exactly excite me either.

Anthropology: I have to focus on either Biological/Physical, Social/Cultural, Theoretical, or Applied Anthropology. Depending on what I sign up for, this could end up being relevant, yet that's mostly speculation.

English and Textual Studies: My English 104 teacher told me I ought to consider studying literature professionally. It seems as if it would probably be helpful, as reading and writing go hand in hand.

Fine Arts: I adored Art History; except I fear that this is one of those fluffy subjects, which really isn't going to do much for me. Hence, I would be taking this purely for my own enjoyment.

Philosophy: This bears a similar problem to Art History, only it might be a bit more beneficial, because it could help build argumentative, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Anonymous on "Religion Extremists" http://forum.collegetimes.us/topic/religion-extremists#post-1737 Thu, 21 Oct 2010 02:12:46 +0000 Anonymous 1737@http://forum.collegetimes.us/
Im writing a research paper for my eng 101 class and the topic i've chosen is against religion extremism when it deals with putting someone's life in danger. In this particular case, it was a clown on a unicycle, pedalling through an open square on campus. Of the test subjects who were walking by while talking on their cell phones, roughly three out of four failed to see the clown; of those who were merely walking, and not talking, the number was much lower. The conclusion was that when you are on the phone you are out to lunch—unless you are actually out to lunch, in which case if you’re on the phone you aren’t really at lunch anymore. I got a job a month ago that is full-time and I am working day shift right now. In Fall I plan on taking 3 online classes (13 credits, two of which are really easy) and one in person class at night (language). The class is on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Mondays I will have 30 minutes time to get to school from work and I have Wednesdays off work so I won't have any troubles there. If I can do Fall quarter successfully I plan on switching to night shift at my job (which is 8pm to 6:30am 4 days a week). So basically I would go to work then drive to school and study until my first class and then go classes and be home and in bed around 12.

I guess what I want is pointers on how to make this easier (or possible). Scheduling I can pull it off but it will require immense focus and I guess I'm just looking for somebody who is doing this, or has done it who can tell me what it is that helped them do it or why it didn't work out for them and what they could do differently.

I plan on using my days off work to "catch up" on my studies and school work. The first quarter should be pretty easy, I'll study my language class 1 hour a day on work days and do all my other courses on my 3 days off (which I would have more than enough time to do that with). I just need to start planning out and preparing for how I'm going to tackle Winter and Spring quarter successfully.
Anonymous on "Questions from a High School Student" http://forum.collegetimes.us/topic/questions-from-a-high-school-student#post-1615 Tue, 24 Aug 2010 12:46:41 +0000 Anonymous 1615@http://forum.collegetimes.us/
Hello I am currently partaking in the class, Stats AP and was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions regarding their high school and college experience.

Which classes did you take or would have taken in high school in order to help you in your major?

Did you feel prepared for college after high school?

What advice would you give to help a high school student prepare for college?

Is there anything you would have done differently in high school to farther prepare yourself for college?

Which college(s) did you attend?

How many years did you attend college?

Did you enjoy your college experience?

Which college classes did you take for your major?

Is there anything you would want to do differently in college?

I hope you will answer as many questions as you can and thank you for your time.

Much Appreciated,

Tyler Ouzts
Anonymous on "Friends With Benefits?" http://forum.collegetimes.us/topic/friends-with-benefits#post-1309 Wed, 03 Feb 2010 14:23:19 +0000 Anonymous 1309@http://forum.collegetimes.us/
Does anyone out there actually believe this can work out well? There are more options than the traditional campus bookstore or bulletin boards. These days, a range of websites cater to the textbook market with options for new, used, rented and even free textbooks.

The Old Dilemma: New vs. Used

You need to consider what kind of arrangement you want. Are you somebody who needs to have a brand-new textbook that has never been marked up and will last for years? Or are you most interested in saving money? Are you only one using the book for one class? Is it necessary that the book not be marked up (e.g. quizzes, tests, problems)? Is the most recent edition necessary due to special software or updated information? Check with your professor to determine the flexibility with editions. You may get easily get a better deal by using a previous edition. If new material is important to the course, then borrow/share a roommate or classmate’s book (or request a teacher-provided supplemental hand-out) for the specific information. Alternatively, some new websites allow you to purchase/print book chapters on demand. All these factors can guide your decision to go new or used.

Websites for Selling/Purchasing

Before you run to the campus bookstore, visit the World Wide Web. As a general rule, you should examine unknown sites for signs of quality: a real physical address, customer-service phone number, security/authentication badges (VeriSign, Thawte, McAfee etc.), and positive press references. Study your shipping options closely and be aware of the delivery time in relation to when you need the book.

* Amazon
* eBay
* half.com
* Barnes & Noble
* BookFinder.com
* AbeBooks Online marketplace for books; subsidiary of Amazon
* Akademos Online marketplace for student-to-student selling
* Flat World Knowledge Free digital textbooks
* Cash4Books online used-book buying service; operated by McKenzieBooks.com

Renting Textbooks

There is also a reliable alternative to buying new or used books. Chegg, a textbook rental service with over 1.5 million books rented in 2009, is the leader. It also offers full refunds for orders returned within 30 days, along with guaranteed book quality and delivery dates. Established in 2005, it appears to be here to stay, having raised more than $160 million in equity and debt. Another one to try is bookrenter.com. Additionally, check with textbook publishers or college bookstores for renting options. Mind your due date, or you’ll be paying extra.
Free Books in the Future?

Paying for textbooks eventually may become a thing of the past, as what’s called the “open textbook initiative” is gaining steam. Some open textbooks are available on the Creative Commons website. In fact, Florida students in state colleges or universities can get free textbooks online or half-price textbooks in print. California has also started to come on board the digital textbook boat. With digital audiobooks, e-books, and e-book readers becoming more widespread, look for other states to follow suit in the future.

[i]About Rasmussen College: Then called the Rasmussen Practical School of Business, Rasmussen College was founded on September 1, 1900 in St. Paul, Minnesota by Walter Rasmussen. School starts again in a couple of weeks, and I'm starting to rethink the classes I have chosen to take this semester. I'm going to be a sophomore at the College of Charleston in SC. I spent my first year experimenting with a ton of classes that I liked but just didn't seem right to major in.

So here I am: so stuck and frustrated that I've decided to ask strangers for their opinions. Not looking for you to decide for me, since you don't know me (obviously). But just have an unbiased outlook.

Ok, here's the majors (and minors) I'm considering. Don't worry about how many credits everything is, because I'm fairly certain I can fit it all into the next 3 (I hope to God) years.

-Communications, with a concentration in Media Studies- Such a vast major. I kind of want to have a job prospect when I graduate, and I hear that so many people with this major get kind of stuck later on, for whatever reason. But, I like to write, and I'll be able to take a few writing classes. Plus, one of my dream jobs is to work for a magazine some day (not necessarily writing, which is what gets me stuck-what about being a creative director or something?). Anyway, this major confuses me because I feel like there are too many and too little things to do with it at the same time.

-Arts Management, which I'll have to find another thing to major or minor in with- Pretty much so I could hopefully someday work at a museum or gallery or something and have both an arts education and a little business knowledge. But I'm not looking forward to the business classes I'd have to take. I'm not a big fan of math. But the other classes look good. And I like the prospects of this one.

-Art History- Probably to go along with Arts Management. I took Asian Art History last semester, and it was my favorite class and my hardest class at the same time. I love learning about the art but I hated memorizing everything, which I have a feeling will be a lot of this major. I think it'd be worth it, though, because I like it. What are some prospects with this, though?

-Historic Preservation- Another dream of mine is to own an antique and architectural salvage store. This would help with that. BUT I'm not sure if I should just major in Art History because I could take the same exact classes and have a broader major title. Any advice?

-Studio Art- Would love to minor in this, because I'd love to have an art background (even if it's small) and I love photography and would concentrate in that. I think this would open some doors for me.

OK, that's enough of my typing. If you read all of that, thank you so much. Please help me out and give me your opinions. See, I'm not completely lost as for what to do. It's just that I have so many ideas it's hard to choose one.

And since this is a long post, I might as well make it longer: Here's things I enjoy in life, so you get a better idea for who I am: travel, writing, photography, fashion, antiques, cities, art, books (and design of books- hello, publishing?), and that's all I can think of.

Ok that's enough. Just remember I can do basically any major and minor combo that would be beneficial. I'm even open to double minoring or something. Thanks again, so much.
Anonymous on "I want to know the GPA's of people who applied to UT Austin and got CAP instead?" http://forum.collegetimes.us/topic/i-want-to-know-the-gpas-of-people-who-applied-to-ut-austin-and-got-cap-instead#post-1564 Sun, 01 Aug 2010 10:14:15 +0000 Anonymous 1564@http://forum.collegetimes.us/
And if u can give me the average high school GPA needed to be offered CAP?
Anonymous on "NEED HELP" http://forum.collegetimes.us/topic/need-help#post-1469 Fri, 28 May 2010 01:08:53 +0000 Anonymous 1469@http://forum.collegetimes.us/
Time to serve the society. a little happy and somewhat upset.
